We traveled to Montreal last week of June for the International Jazz Festival. We love Jazz music, so, when I found out about the festival I knew we would be there. This was my first ever music festival and our first trip to Montreal. To say it’s the most memorable and budget-friendly trip we’ve ever taken is an understatement.

To help in better understanding how great this trip was I will break down my review into ten categories and six blog entries. This first blog entry has two categories titled accommodation and transportation. I will share the remaining categories everyday this week.

Accommodation:

We used Airbnb for the very first time and I must admit it was the best decision we’ve ever made. We found a host, Marie-Laure and Fabio who live a stone throw away from where the Jazz Festival was taking place and also close to the metro station, nice restaurants, shopping district and park. The neighborhood had big colorful houses and a tree-lined street. I still can’t believe we paid the amount we paid to live in such a lovely and very convenient place. The room had a simple decor and equipped with everything we needed for our stay. The bed was very comfortable. Marie and Fabio were fantastic and friendly. She gave us maps with detailed directions, and suggestions on what to do and where to eat. She made us daily breakfast and told me I can use anything in her kitchen if I need to cook. Staying with them was one of the reasons our Montreal trip was so memorable. I highly recommend staying with them to anyone planning on visiting Montreal.

Transportation:

Going from one place to another in Montreal was easy. Their metro and bus were reliable and very neat compared to what I’m used to. We always say the rats in NYC subways are gangsters because they stare you right in the face and dare you to do something, which of course, you don’t but instead run away like a scaredy-cat. In Montreal, I did not see any rat in the subway. We bought a 3-day metro pass during our stay, which was a good idea because it made getting around so much easier and cheaper.
