Last weekend, June 25th was my birthday but I celebrated the entire weekend even yesterday, all thanks to my fiancé, family and close friends. I started the day by working out a little at the gym then getting a well deserved mani and pedi, and then heading downtown with my fiancé to explore some parts of New York City. Later in the day we came back to Harlem to have dinner at one of our favorite go-to African restaurants and then danced the rest of the night away at Harlem’s hottest spot for African and Caribbean music.
The next day being Sunday, my fiancé told me we would do brunch just the two of us. I said sure and looked forward to it because most of my birthdays in the past since we’ve been dating I’ve celebrated with just him and I eating at a fancy restaurant. So, we headed to the restaurant immediately after Church service and little did I know that it was a surprise birthday brunch. His siblings and our close friends came just to celebrate and show me love. It’s always a great feeling knowing you’re truly loved. My day couldn’t have been any better. We ate, drank, cracked jokes, laughed and had fun. It was a great day!
And to add icing to the cake, one of our friends came with his 1963 Chevrolet Impala and suggested we drive around New York City just for the fun of it. This turned out to be a great idea because we went to some parts of NYC I’ve never been to before. The weather was nice so we rolled down the window and just cruised around. Or maybe we rolled down the window because of the many attentions we were getting from strangers on the street. Everyone was admiring and commenting on the car.
And to make the driving around even more exciting it was the NYC Pride March day, so a lot of fun-loving people were on the streets. And as luck may have it I had my Nikon with me and just snapped away.
For my look, I kept things casual chic. I didn’t want to be too dressy and I didn’t want to be too casual either. So, I wore my old boyfriend jeans with my Zara text t-shirt (which is sold out but you can get a similar one here), H&M blazer, Christian Siriano for Payless heels (this is also sold out but you can get a similar one here) and ASOS clutch (this is definitely sold out because I’ve had it for years, but you can get similar ones here, they are a bit pricey though), and Le Specs sunglasses (which everyone on the street said was so cool).
And for that extra chicness, I wore my classically beautiful Daniel Wellington watch. I had on the Classic Sheffield watch in rose gold. This is the first watch I’ve owned in a while. I got so used to checking time on my iPhone that I concluded owning a watch was not really necessary and gave away some of my old watches and left some with dead batteries on my dresser to accumulate dust.
I fell in love instantly upon receiving my Daniel Wellington watch and caught myself many times checking the time with it. It’s simple but yet so classy and elegant. And it’s easy to read time with. I’ve worn it almost everyday since last weekend and I’ve noticed that it goes well with every outfit. Oh yes I’m one of those that wear different watches for different outfits, but with this watch, I don’t even have to. This is a must-have for summer and you are lucky because you too can get one at a discounted price by going to Daniel Wellington’s website and using this code “lamodeDW“. With this code you will get 15% off any watch you want with free shipping. They have really nice watches for both men and women. And they ship worldwide too.
Disclosure of Material Connection: I received the watch mentioned above for free in the hope that I would mention it on my blog. However, all opinions are my own. I only recommend products and services I use personally and believe will be beneficial to my readers.
