The Nolcha Shows fall/winter 2017 runway took place on Monday, February 13th, at ArtBeam Studios in Chelsea. Nolcha Shows have been giving platform to independent fashion designers for the past nine years. And they have consistently hosted runway shows during New York Fashion Week where seasoned and emerging designers showcase their latest collections.
Nine independent designers showcased their fall/winter 2017 collections at the just concluded NYFW. There were three separate shows: “Ones to Watch” scheduled at 1pm, “Made in NYC” scheduled at 4:30pm, and the final show at 8pm by PromGirl and PromGuy. This show featured “Real Teens” on the runway and it seemed to also be exclusively for teens because some guests from the first shows weren’t invited.
The 1pm show featured five designers and one of them was newcomer Diana Delva, She is the designer behind the fashion label, Chèlbè that makes clothes specifically for tall women. I recognized Diana Delva as one of the top 5 designers to watch at New York Fashion Week 2017. Another designer was Mariana Valentina who is inspired by architecture and foreign cultures to design timeless pieces that make women feel sensual and romantic.
The 4:30p show featured Samantha Leibowitz who specializes in men’s and women’s ready to wear. Husband and wife designer duo Evelyn Luna and Scott Chester designers of the popular label ACID NYC that make edgy designs for both men and women. They were also at the Nolcha Shows last year with their fall/winter 2016 collection. And Lavanya Coodly who mainly taught herself to sew and sources all her materials in the USA and hand-embroider in India.
I received invitation to attend both the 1pm and 4:30pm shows but I only accepted the 4:30pm because of work. I work 9 to 5 so do not have the luxury that some bloggers have to attend morning and afternoon shows. I can take time off but I’m saving my hours for my upcoming wedding travel/vacation. I went to work on the day of the Nolcha Shows with the intention of leaving work a little bit early so I can make it to the show on time. But as my luck or lack thereof will have it, I ended up leaving work late and didn’t make it to the show on time. I got there when the last designer was walking off the stage. 🙁
Although, I didn’t get to see the runway shows I hoped to see, I was fortunate to see some of the designs off the runway. And was more than happy to see all the photos on nolchashows.com. Below is a list of some of my favorite runway and my favorite red carpet looks.
