This was only my second time at New York Fashion Week (my first was last season’s spring/summer 2016) and it was more than anything I could have imagined. First and foremost, I am grateful for all the invites and opportunity to watch and enjoy the collections of incredibly great independent and local fashion designers that are making big moves in the fashion industry. Although, like I mentioned here, I was not able to attend all the great shows 🙁 but the few shows I was able to attend were remarkably outstanding.
The first show I attended was on Friday, February 12th by Dallas-based menswear designer, Mahiri Takai. The collection was inspired by his near death experience and his passion to empower young entrepreneurs. The second show I went to was on Monday, February 15th organized by the Nolcha Shows, which featured 11 talented independent fashion designers. You can read my review of the shows here and see images of the stylish people that came out to show their support here. The last of my NYFW shows were on Tuesday, February 16th organized by Art Hearts Fashion – a leading fashion event producer and huge platform for designers and artists to showcase their collections. My review of the shows will be posted soon on the blog. Other notable fashion week shows that sadly I had to miss due to circumstances beyond my control were produced by Style Fashion Week and Small Boutique Fashion Week. Based on the runway photos and videos I have seen so far, the shows featured lots of great designers and jaw-dropping fall/winter 2016 collections. I have already started counting down to next season’s fashion week and will climb the highest mountain if I must to ensure I don’t miss a show.
What I Wore:
I kept it simple and cold weather friendly. I incorporated the most leather in my looks than I’ve ever done before. Usually, my use of leather starts and ends with my jacket not including shoes and bags.
For my NYFW first look, I went for a brown faux leather midi skirt, softened it with a simple t-shirt and glammed it up with a fur scarf that everyone thought was a jacket.
For my third day of NYFW, I welcomed the idea of leather again and went for a green faux leather shift dress, styled with a chic statement necklace and black fur jacket. I added a bit of drama with my tights and chunky heel ankle boots.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to capture good images of the outfits I wore on second (black stripe flare sleeve A-line dress) and fourth (all black ensemble – black skinny disco trousers with a black t-shirt and coat with fleece lapels) days.
My amazing and very handsome boyfriend proposed to me on Saturday, February 13th at a private surprise dinner attended by our family and close friends. It was the most happiest day of our lives. I will share a detailed story of our engagement with the proposal video at a later date on the blog.
