LME was invited to Panla A Taste of Africa Event Series that took place on Tuesday, September 1st at Le Souk Restaurant in Downtown New York.
The Taste of Africa Event Series has been around since 2008 thanks to Panla, “a catering and food distribution company that specializes in contemporary international cuisine.” It started off as a quarterly event aimed to celebrate Pan-African culture through food, music and fashion while raising funds for not-for-profit organizations dedicated to bringing change and development in various parts of Africa.
The event is organized and hosted by none other than Akin Akinsanya who believes in celebrating African culture and promoting entrepreneurship and diversity.
The ambiance at Le Souk was cozy and intimate with dimly lit room and rose petals on the stairs.
There were two separate sections. The VIP section was for those who bought the $100 ticket and were fortunate to enjoy a 7 course tasting menu with wine pairing by Nigerian chef, Michael Elegbede.
The buffet section had different menu options prepared by chefs from Madiba restaurant and Farafina Cafe and Lounge Harlem.
It was a night of fun and great food with luxury music by DJ Universe who kept spinning the best of African music.
It was an outgoing and global crowd with people from different African countries, Europe and North America. And you can bet they were dressed to impress. You can’t have a lot of Africans in one roof without having a fashion moment.
It was also a night for lovers as some of the audience came out with their significant others to mingle and enjoy A Taste of Africa.
Thanks to the huge success of this recent event, Panla A Taste of Africa Event Series will now take place every two weeks. The next one is on Tuesday, September 15th also at Le Souk Restaurant but this event will feature two outstanding chefs – Barbara Naadjie (Ghanaian) and Clemon Zobo (Ivorian).
