I came across Satchel’s Instagram page last year and instantly sent her a direct message to profess my love for her hair and of course to inquire about the location of her fountain of thick and full natural hair so I can go there and drink some of it. I reached out to her again last month to be my December natural hair beauty. Ending this year with her interview was the only thing that made sense to me. I couldn’t think of anyone more deserving.

How long have you been natural?
I’ve been natural for 2 years now.
What made you decide to go natural?
I saw so many badass natural hairstyles I know without a doubt I could pull off. Before going natural I was wearing weaves between 30-40 inches. I felt my hair was attracting the wrong crowd. I also had a perm that took my hair out for the 4th time, this time it was edges, and my relaxing days were over.
What is your experience so far as a natural?
I love my natural hair! I actually can’t keep my hands out of it. My family loves it, especially my beau. I love conversing with naturals in public. Since I’m nearing 21 soon I’m trying to find grown and sexy natural-do’s for clubbing and date night. I wish to find other naturals like myself.
Please describe your natural hair texture/type.
I believe I’m 4b/4c. My hair is very kinky. My hair density is medium not very thick nor vey thin.
What are your favorite natural hair products and what have they done for your hair?
Mango and Lime Jamaican Castor Oil!!! That stuff is growth in a bottle.
Describe your hair care regimen and reason behind it.
My hair tells me what it wants, and I deliver. So if my scalp is itchy and dry, I apply castor oil. I do condition it often.
What are your go-to natural hairstyles?
Right now, I have been washing and going wand adding Eco styler gel. Makes my curls pop. Also I’ll take a Big Fro protective style which is my favorite! Or gel my hair and do a coarse donut bun.
What advice do you have for new or old naturals hoping to grow their hair healthier?
Don’t over do the products. Stay at three products. You don’t wanna walk out the house with food fight mayo hair. Another thing is confidence, especially amongst fellow naturals. If we’re confident then we are kind. Being natural is not a race or competition.
Do you have a blog and/or social media page people can visit for more info?
Yes you can follow me on Instagram @sunnysidesatch
